Result of Extraordinary Council Meeting held on Monday 30th June at Exeter GCC
The Proposition to reverse the decision made last December was carried by 45 votes to 26 with 4 abstensions.  This means that from 1st January 2009, the per captita County Levy will be reduced from £9.50 to £7.50.  Also, as a consequence of this vote, the agreed "free County Card" issue will not be made and the Scheme will continue as before with the Card cost continuing at £15 from 1st April 2009. (31/45 clubs attended the Meeting).

Handicap Championship closing date extended to Friday 4th July
START SHEET - Click on 'Tournaments'  To encourage more entries.  Handicap Limit is 18. Please call the office on 01822 610640 in the first instance to book a time. The Tournament is being played over 2 days at Staddon Heights GC on Friday 11th & Saturday 12th July.  18 Holes medal is to be played on Friday, then top 42 & ties qualify to play on Saturday afternoon in the 2nd Round. Scratch, Nett & Team prizes available.

George & Nicky triumph in County Mixed Foursomes
The Tavistock pair of George & Nicky Gawman took the DCGU Palairet Cup at Teignmouth with consumate ease, scoring 38 points in the 1st Round and 16 pts on the 2nd Round of 9 holes.  See Tournaments for full results.

Palairet Plate Qualifier
Exeter Golf & Country Club have kindly agreed to host the Palairet Plate Qualifier on 6th July 2008. Please return your completed club's entry form to DCGU Office by 27th June

South West Counties Week at RND - 8th to 13th June
Devon tied with Gloucestershire for second place in the Team Championship at South West Counties Week. Wiltshire took the title for the second year in succession.

Devon's Jon White (Saunton) beat Miles Mackman (Broome Manor) of Wiltshire in a play-off to become the South Western Counties Amateur Champion. Devon finished 4th in the Matchplay Shield with Wiltshire taking the title.

Order of Merit -New Event Introduced
Following discussions with the Devon Professional Golfers Alliance, it has been decided to add the Devon Open to the 2008 Order of Merit schedule. The Event will be played at Saunton East on Sunday 24th August - See Tournaments/Order of Merit for Entry Form. The Order of Merit is now based on the 7 best results from 10 events.
