Your support welcomed for the next home Channel League match Our County Captain would like to encourage to come and support the County 1st Team when they play Wiltshire at Tavistock on Sunday 1st August. The Devon side is shown under "Teams". If you cannot make Tavistock, then our 2nd Team is playing Wiltshire at Dainton Park.
Palairet Memorial Trophy Quarter Finals - Results Libbaton made it through to Finals Day, for the 2nd time in 3 years, after a "sudden-death" thriller against Tavistock at RND - their 5th pair made a birdie 4 at the 1st extra hole! They will now meet Staddon Heights who finally defeated a brave Saunton Artisans team (a club with only 21 members) which had valiantly battled though the previous 2 rounds. Staddon last won the Trophy in 2002. Joining them will be Stover and Exeter who will play each other in the 1st Semi-Final. See "Tournaments" for details.
We are very pleased to announce that the Finals Day on Sunday 15th August will be hosted this year by YELVERTON and the Union is most grateful to them for providing their course and club facilities for this special day.
Palairet Plate Finals Day - Results A great day for Dainton Park (shown left) who won the Plate after an enthralling match against former winners Great Torrington. In the 3rd Place Play-Off, Yelverton managed to defeat newcomers Exminster in their first appearance on a Finals Day - well done to Exminster on winning their first County Trophy. Our grateful thanks go to Alan Richards and the staff at Woodbury. See 'Tournaments' for detailed results.
WANTED! Two more for the Dartmoor Trophy.... 64 competitors are looking forward to a great day Woodbury Park Hotel & Golf Club on Thursday 29th July for the 17th running of the SW of England Open Mid-Amateur Championship (for the Dartmoor Trophy).
The 2009 winner Graham Ruth (Tavistock), shown left receiving the trophy from the President will be there to defend his title along with many other hopefuls including the County Captain & Vice-Captain + the Immediate Past Captain! This popular Tournament for the over 35's is being supported this year by Brittany Ferries Holidays and the County Union is most appreciative of the prizes being provided to add to the success of the event.

Second all round for Devon at the SW Boys Championships Devon finsished seven shots behind Gloucestershire in the team championships with James Smith (Yelverton) also finishing as runner-up in the individual championship. James carded 147 for the 36 holes one shot behind the Champion, Chris Lloyd (The Kendalshire & Gloucestershire). Go to JUNIORS on the main navigation bar and Tournaments for the scores. 
Following on in Brother's footsteps James Bradley (Wrangaton) took over as Devon Handicap Champion from brother Anthony after 2 rounds of very solid golf by the young 9 handicapper at Honiton. James shot 135 for the two rounds two shots ahead of fellow Junior golfer Anthony McGeorge. 
Jimmy Mullen, yet another Junior won the scratch prize with Ryan Fricker (Yelverton) in second place.
Peter Short, Chris Drew and Jason Middleton of Libbaton took the Team prize.
South Western Counties Week victory for Devon  After an exciting finish to the week, Devon came out victorious by narrowily beating Gloucs on the last day! Well done the lads! Tuesday 8th June - a beautiful sunny day at Trevose saw Billy Hemstock (Teignmouth) win the prestigious South Western Counties GA's Individual Championship with superb scores of 69 & 68 for a 137 total. The Team Championship (scores from each County's six nominated players) was eventually taken by Somerset with a total of 855 (-9), Gloucestershire & Wiltshire were tied for 2nd on 864 (even par), Devon were 4th on 870, Cornwall 5th on 875 and Dorset 6th on 898.
'Nationwide' County Card launched Devon has joined forces with 25 other Counties in England and, from 1st April, approx. 1000 courses will be available to play on the discounted green fee scheme. Click on 'County Cards' navigation bar above for details and list of counties and their clubs. |
