Sunday 7th March - Men v Juniors match at Tavistock GC A Devon Mens select team played a very talented Devon Junior team at a wonderfully presented Tavistock Golf Club this weekend, the strong winds in the morning mixed with a combination of the quick smooth greens made scoring very challenging, but both sides were up to the challenge.
It all looked to be going the way of the senior side in the morning foursomes with the men winning the first three foursomes comfortably, but the juniors showed what they are made of and with both of the final two foursomes going down to the last green, with James Smith & Joe Davis beating Ryan Fricker & James Holt and Jimmy Mullen & Ryan Acres beating Steve Buzza & Ryan Pope meaning that the score at lunch was 3-2 to the more experienced side.
The wind subsided in the afternoon and the golf just got better and better, Sam Edwards coming back from 2 down to halve his match with James Dimond, the battle for the bragging rights at Yelverton was won by Anthony Bradley who beat clubmate Leon Fricker 2 up.
Adam Bridgewater beat the in form Scott Love and Captain fantastic Neil Holland dusted off his clubs to beat Joe Davis on the last green, a late rally by James Smith and Ryan Acres wasn’t enough as the junior team succumbed to a 9½ to 5½ loss.
Vice Captain Adam Bridgewater gave his thanks to Junior Captain Tom Jessamine and Team manager Graham Moore, and explained how pleased he was with the quality of all of the matches and the maturity of the performance from the junior side and he wished them all the best for what I am sure will be a succesfull season, stating that many of the junior side he expected to be playing first team golf in the coming year, he also thanked the mens team for a professional performance and stated that the battle for team selection is going to be the toughest it has been for a number of years.

Devon U18 cruise to victory
Pictured left is the Devon U18 Team that beat Cornwall in a Scratch Stableford by 27 Points. The match took place at Bude on 17th February 2010.
A great result for Devon in this season opener and for Graham Moore in his first match in charge of the side.
Sunday 7th Feb at Royal North Devon GC The Devon County Golf Elite Squad were in action for the first time this season; ‘The Invitational Captain's Medal’ at Royal North Devon.
With a fresh easterly, damp conditions and temperatures just nudging above freezing, it was a real test of golf and keeping warm! With coaching facilities throughout, some were already able to make their mark at what could be a brilliant if not fascinating season ahead. Scott Love (Axe Cliff) took the honours on the back nine from Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon); a 3-under-Par total for the 27 Hole tournament. Magnificent scores from two new Elite Squad Members; surely two names for full county caps in the not too distant future?
Sam Edwards (Bigbury) and James Dimond (East Devon) shared the spoils on the Championship course with level par rounds of 72; very impressive!
On old Stalwart also celebrated major swing changes this winter with a hole in one on the short 6th (Pimples Course) 'over the water' – Tim Aggett of Staddon Heights will be celebrating wildly over the coming weeks and months ahead!
Vice-Captain Adam Bridgewater (Yelverton) was ‘absolutely delighted with the talent on show; their will definitely be new faces pushing into the first team as the standard of golf is being raised to new heights again – not since 2005 have we seen this type of quality begin to emerge. I am sure the Captain (Neil Holland) will have much to ponder before releasing his team for the triangular Championship at East Devon on Sunday 21 February’.
Royal North Devon kindly gave the County the courtesy of the course and facilities - this gesture is most gratefully appreciated and our thanks go to the members of such an historic and welcoming golf club. The Club has also offered the courtesy of the 'Pimples' Short Course for Squad Members' use at any time during the year and, again, the Captain is very appreciative of this most generous gesture.
